As white as the winter snow, our Christmas Gift Amaryllis will fill your home with wonderful flowers during the cold, snowy months. It needs very little watering. It can take 6-8 weeks for them to bloom.
Your amaryllis bulbs will bloom again and again, provided they are properly cared for. After the bulb finishes blooming, cut off the flower stalk close to the base. Keep the plant moist and add house plant fertilizer. Stop watering in August, and allow the plant to dry out completely in the sun. In early fall, remove and clean the bulbs of old scales and dead foliage. Roots should be fleshy and not damaged. You can re-pot when you are ready to restart the process.

Features of Species or Group: |
| |
Large flowering, making an impressive display. The number of flowers per stem varies but normally one stem produces more than one flower, and one large bulb produces more than one flowering stem. |
Features of Genus: |
| |
Hippeastrum (Amaryllis) comes from the Greek hippeus (knight) and astron (star), perhaps because of its shape: the flower stem being lateral to the leaves at the top, metaphorically similar to the colors at the top of a knight’s lance. The genus is comprised of around 70 species, all native to south America. The flowers are carried on a strong stem, which has no leaves but frequently is covered with a “bloom” of wax. |
