Special Features

Looks good in rock gardens, raised beds, the front of borders or naturalized in grass. Also known as 'Jeanne d'Arc'. Has large flowers.

Features of Species or Group:

Native to the Alps and Pyrenees. The most widely cultivated crocus, also called the Dutch crocus. This crocus is bigger than the other varieties.

Features of Genus:

There are over 80 species of crocus, mainly late winter and spring flowering, but there are some autumn bloomers, too. Crocus are among the earliest flowers to appear in spring, often pushing their flowers up through the snow. In some species flowers appear some weeks before the leaves. Crocus are mostly native to the countries around the Mediterranean Sea where they usually grow as far east as Afghanistan.

How to Plant Crocus Bulbs?

To plant Crocus Bulbs the bulbs should be planted with the nose of the bulb upward (or the roots facing downwards) and the Joan of Arc Crocus should be planted roughly 4" deep and 2" apart from one another.

Note: For some bulbs you may not be able to tell which way is up or down, in these cases just plant them on their side and they will adjust on their own.

When to Plant Joan of Arc Crocus?

Crocus Bulbs are normally planted Late Fall, and most Joan of Arc Crocus will begin to flower sometime in Mid Spring.
