 |
Features of Species or Group: |
| |
One flower per stem. Cup or corona more than one-
third, but less than equal to, the length of the
petals. The perianth is usually round, with petals
forming a closed circle. The bowl-shaped cup sits
against it like a cup and saucer. Most of these
varieties are yellow but some of them have a darker or
lighter cup. |
Features of Genus: |
| |
Daffodils are probably the best known and most widely
grown of all bulbs and to many they are the true
indicator of spring. They look wonderful mass planted
in the garden or naturalized in grass, but they also
make great pot plants and excellent cut flowers. The
best known colour is yellow, but there are also
flowers in shades of white, cream, orange and pink.
The trumpet is often a different colour to the petals
and may be bicoloured. There are many species and
cultivars and the genus Narcissus has been divided
into 12 groups, depending on the shape and size of the
flowers. |
