These little Dahlias are ideal for use in the foreground of a perennial border. They are bright sunny yellow flowers with 4-6" diameter blooms. They will brighten up areas where low growing perennials like Geraniums have already stopped flowering, but still are attractive because of their beautiful leaves. Pompon Dahlias will attract birds, bees and butterflies to your garden. Official flower used for 14th Wedding Anniversary.

Cutting: cut flowers early in the day, remove lower
foliage. Pompon dahlias are also ideal for attracting bees, birds and butterflies.
Features of Species or Group:
The pompon Dahlia got its name from the French because
their similarity to the pompon on the capes of
soldiers. Also known as the " Lilliputian Dahlia" they
are entirely round, globe shaped with good double
flowers which are closed at the back. Its strongest
point, next to its beauty ofcourse, is its abundance
of flowers. When properly maintained it flowers non
stop during the last months of summer.
Features of Genus:
Dahlias belong to the most popular plants because of
their long flowering period and splendid flowers.
Interestingly enough, this widely cultivated flower,
with its many species, cultivars and varieties, had
to be discovered twice. The first description was
written in 1615 in a series of books about animals and
plants from "New Spain" (modern day Mexico), where
the Aztecs cultivated them as ornamental garden
plants. Yet it wasn't until 1789 that the director of
the Royal Gardens in Madrid received some seeds from
the Spanish director of the Botanical Garden in
Mexico. Two years later, he described a half double,
purple variety and named it after a Swedish botanist,
Andreas Dahl. Many experiments followed and many
species and cultivars were developed, giving Dahlias
the popularity and wide spread admiration they enjoy
today.
How to Plant Dahlia Bulbs?
To plant Dahlia Bulbs the bulbs should be planted with the nose of the bulb upward (or the roots facing downwards) and the Golden Scepter Pompon Dahlia should be planted roughly 1-2" deep and 12-18" apart from one another.
Note: For some bulbs you may not be able to tell which way is up or down, in these cases just plant them on their side and they will adjust on their own.
When to Plant Golden Scepter Pompon Dahlia?
Dahlia Bulbs are normally planted spring, and most Golden Scepter Pompon Dahlia will begin to flower sometime in summer.
