Novelty Dahlias are the best choice for a summer border to be colorful and cheerful until late in the season. The striking Yellow center to deep orange petals are a great punch of color. The petals look much like the cactus dahlia and blooms get 4-6" in diameter. The shape and color of the flowers can easily be combined with each other and with perennials. Further more, Dahlias are great cut flowers. Official flower used for 14th Wedding Anniversary.

Cutting: cut flowers early in the day and remove all foliage.
Features of Species or Group:
Novelty dahlias are quickly becoming as popular as their traditional counterparts. The novelty dahlias offered at Tulip World have striking vivid colors which you can use to brighten up or accentuate any part of your garden. These unique shades and varieties can be combined with more traditional dahlias to create a splendid ocean of jewel-like blooms.
Features of Genus:
Dahlias belong to the most popular plants because of their long flowering period and splendid flowers. Interestingly enough, this widely cultivated flower, with its many species, cultivars and varieties, had to be discovered twice. The first description was written in 1615 in a series of books about animals and plants from "New Spain" (modern day Mexico), where the Aztecs cultivated them as ornamental garden plants. Yet it wasn't until 1789 that the director of the Royal Gardens in Madrid received some seeds from the Spanish director of the Botanical Garden in Mexico. Two years later, he described a half double, purple variety and named it after a Swedish botanist, Andreas Dahl. Many experiments followed and many species and cultivars were developed, giving Dahlias the popularity and wide spread admiration they enjoy today.
How to Plant Dahlia Bulbs?
To plant Dahlia Bulbs the bulbs should be planted with the nose of the bulb upward (or the roots facing downwards) and the Vuurvogel Novelty Dahlia should be planted roughly 1-2" deep and 12-18" apart from one another.
Note: For some bulbs you may not be able to tell which way is up or down, in these cases just plant them on their side and they will adjust on their own.
When to Plant Vuurvogel Novelty Dahlia?
Dahlia Bulbs are normally planted spring, and most Vuurvogel Novelty Dahlia will begin to flower sometime in summer.
