Monte Carlo Double Tulip In Stock

The wide open double flowers of Double Earlies resemble peonies. They always attract a lot of attention, so they should be combined with modest neighbour plants like late flowering perennials or not too tall ornamental grasses. Monte Carlo is sulphur- yellow, at times slightly feathered red. It smells terrific!

Special Features

For perennial borders. Spectacular when masse planted!

Features of Species or Group:

The double early tulips are stout, short plants having stems of 12in (30cm) height. The flowers are large and double and come in colours of white, yellow, and pink to bright red. One of the first ones was the pink Murillo which was produced in 1850. This tulip is the ancestor of many new varieties. Flowering from mid- April. These tulips have big double flowers and should be given a little protection from winds or their flowers might be spoiled. The first double tulip appeared over 300 years ago.

Features of Genus:

There are over 100 species of tulips and many hundreds of hybrids. Most modern garden tulips are the result of extensive breeding programmes that began in the late sixteenth century in Europe and are continuing to this day. Tulips were all the rage at that time as more and more species were introduced to Europe from Turkey, Iran and central Asia. Tulip species range in height from 15-60cm (6-24in) but the greatest number of hybrids are probably in the range of 30-40cm (12- 16in). Tulips look their best in mass plantings of one colour but they can, of course, be mixed. They make very good container plants and are delightful cut flowers. Some of the most charming are the dwarf types which do particularly well in rock gardens and are also suitable for containers. Like daffodils, tulips are split into a number of divisions according to their flower form and time of flowering.

How to Plant Double Late Tulips?

To plant Double Late Tulips the bulbs should be planted with the nose of the bulb upward (or the roots facing downwards) and the Monte Carlo Double Tulip should be planted roughly 6" deep and 5" apart from one another.

Note: For some bulbs you may not be able to tell which way is up or down, in these cases just plant them on their side and they will adjust on their own.

When to Plant Monte Carlo Double Tulip?

Double Late Tulips are normally planted Late Fall, and most Monte Carlo Double Tulip will begin to flower sometime in Mid Spring.
