Dappled  Blotted. 
Darwinhybrid group  Single flowered cultivars, long stemmed, mid season flowering. Originally the result of hybridization between cultivars of the Darwin Group with Tulipa fosteriana. 
Deadheading  Removing flowers as they fade to prevent the plant from wasting valuable energy on forming seeds and to keep plants looking tidy. 
Deciduous  As opposed to evergreen, shedding of the foliage at the end of the growth period, in some genera certain species are evergreen while others are deciduous. 
Die back  The dying of the outer portions of a plant, due to disease or weather damage.  
Die down  See Die back. 
Dot plant  A tall specimen plant used to add height to and contrast with arrangements of lower-growing plants, especially in summer bedding schemes. 
Double  Having more than the usual number of petals, often arranged in extra rows. The opposite of single. 
Double early group  Double flowered cultivars, mainly short stemmed and early flowering. 
Double late group  Double flowered cultivars, mainly short stemmed and late flowering. 
Drifts  Planting in drifts. Also called broadcasting. Strewing around bulbs to plant them where they landed in order to get a natural feel.
