The greigii group has excellent value as their foliage is also attractive, with purplish flames and speckles. Pinocchio has scarlet red outer tepals with an ivory- white edge and yellow base. Does well in pots and comes back several years.

Features of Species or Group:
  The Tulip Greigii was discovered in Turkestan in 1877 and described by Regel. He named it after S.A. Greig, a botanist from St. Petersburg. Hybrids are presumed to have been produced from crosses with other species. These hybrids reach heights from 8-16in (20-40cm). They bloom rather late, at the end of April and beginning of May. This group of garden tulips is glorious; as a result it has become very popular. Wonderful colour combinations can be made by planting them among grape hyacinths, chionodoxa and triandrus narcissuses. Because of their large, eye-catching flowers, their flowering period, and their height, they are perfect for planting in gardens, borders and rock gardens.

Features of Genus:
  There are over 100 species of tulips and many hundreds of hybrids. Most modern garden tulips are the result of extensive breeding programmes that began in the late sixteenth century in Europe and are continuing to this day. Tulips were all the rage at that time as more and more species were introduced to Europe from Turkey, Iran and central Asia. Tulip species range in height from 15-60cm (6-24in) but the greatest number of hybrids are probably in the range of 30-40cm (12- 16in). Tulips look their best in mass plantings of one colour but they can, of course, be mixed. They make very good container plants and are delightful cut flowers. Some of the most charming are the dwarf types which do particularly well in rock gardens and are also suitable for containers. Like daffodils, tulips are split into a number of divisions according to their flower form and time of flowering.

How to Plant Kaufmanniana & Greigii?
 

To plant Kaufmanniana & Greigii the bulbs should be planted with the nose of the bulb upward (or the roots facing downwards) and the Pinocchio Greigii Tulip should be planted roughly 6" deep and 5" apart from one another.

Note: For some bulbs you may not be able to tell which way is up or down, in these cases just plant them on their side and they will adjust on their own.

When to Plant Pinocchio Greigii Tulip?
  Kaufmanniana & Greigii are normally planted Late Fall, and most Pinocchio Greigii Tulip will begin to flower sometime in Mid Spring.
