Special Features

They are very winter hardy up to zone 2. Plants grown in pots do best in at least four hours of direct sunlight per day. Attractive in rock gardens and borders.

Features of Species or Group:

Native to south and central Europe; north Africa; and southwest Asia. The bulb has pinkish color and the leaves are broader than other Muscari.

Features of Genus:

Vigorous and easy to grow, grape hyacinths have blue flowers of varying intensity. There are several species and named varieties available, including doubles. The genus got its name from Muscari moschatum. Women in Turkey used to wear this grape hyacinth in their hair as a sign that they were marrying. Grape hyacinths are a great foil for other bright spring-flowering bulbs such as tulips or Ranunculus. This plant has the most impact when planted in drifts. In large gardens, it can easily be naturalized in grass or under deciduous trees.

How to Plant Muscari Bulbs?

To plant Muscari Bulbs the bulbs should be planted with the nose of the bulb upward (or the roots facing downwards) and the Plumosum Muscari should be planted roughly 4" deep and 3" apart from one another.

Note: For some bulbs you may not be able to tell which way is up or down, in these cases just plant them on their side and they will adjust on their own.

When to Plant Plumosum Muscari?

Muscari Bulbs are normally planted Mid Fall, and most Plumosum Muscari will begin to flower sometime in Mid Spring.
