Features of Species or Group:

Found in central and southeastern Europe. Also known as Grape Hyacinth. It has a range of colors starting from white to rose-hued to pale blue, and even yellow.

Features of Genus:

Vigorous and easy to grow, grape hyacinths have blue flowers of varying intensity. There are several species and named varieties available, including doubles. The genus got its name from Muscari moschatum. Women in Turkey used to wear this grape hyacinth in their hair as a sign that they were marrying. Grape hyacinths are a great foil for other bright spring-flowering bulbs such as tulips or Ranunculus. This plant has the most impact when planted in drifts. In large gardens, it can easily be naturalized in grass or under deciduous trees.
