Parrots are among the oldest and most eye-catching tulips. The huge, brillant colored flowers are very showy with feathered, curled, twisted or waved petals. Can be sensitive to cold wet weather, but excellent cut flowers. Flaming Parrot is yellow with flaming red stripes! Great for a centerpiece in your garden.

Features of Species or Group:
		Parrot tulips were already in existence in 1665. These plants are only produced from mutations; they are never reproduced from seeds. Possibly, they originated from cottage tulips. The old varieties were too feeble to stand up straight because the flowers were so heavy; they were always hanging over. Offspring from Darwin, Triumph, and Single Early tulips have improved the Parrot tulips. The flowers are fringed; the petals are not smooth along the margins, but decorated with parrot feathers. Individual flowers are multicoloured with yellow, green, orange or red stripes.
Features of Genus:
		There are over 100 species of tulips and many hundreds of hybrids. Most modern garden tulips are the result of extensive breeding programmes that began in the late sixteenth century in Europe and are continuing to this day. Tulips were all the rage at that time as more and more species were introduced to Europe from Turkey, Iran and central Asia. Tulip species range in height from 15-60cm (6-24in) but the greatest number of hybrids are probably in the range of 30-40cm (12- 16in). Tulips look their best in mass plantings of one colour but they can, of course, be mixed. They make very good container plants and are delightful cut flowers. Some of the most charming are the dwarf types which do particularly well in rock gardens and are also suitable for containers. Like daffodils, tulips are split into a number of divisions according to their flower form and time of flowering.


How to Plant Parrot Tulips?
			To plant Parrot Tulips the bulbs should be planted with the nose of the bulb upward (or the roots facing downwards) and the Texas Flame (or Flaming) Parrot Tulip should be planted roughly 6-8" deep and 4-6" apart from one another. Note: For some bulbs you may not be able to tell which way is up or down, in these cases just plant them on their side and they will adjust on their own.
When to Plant Texas Flame (or Flaming) Parrot Tulip?
			Parrot Tulips are normally planted fall, and most Texas Flame (or Flaming) Parrot Tulip will begin to flower sometime in Late Spring.
