Chionodoxas are most effective in large groups under deciduous trees and in front of early-flowering shrubs. Though short stemmed, they live long in cut flower arrangements. Either in sun or dappled shade, they will flower everywhere.

Special Features
 

Fertilizer will not be necessary for most garden soils. They do well in especially well-drained soil in full sun or light shade. It will flower best in cool parts of the country.

Features of Species or Group:

  This cultivar is what used to be known asChionodoxa gigantea. Native to Turkey and introduced in 1878.

Features of Genus:

  This dainty little bulb is ideal for rock gardens or raised beds, with its mass of open, star-shaped blue flowers with white centres. They are carried on short spikes of up to a dozen or so flowers per spike. The strap-shaped leaves form loose, rather untidy rosettes.

How to Plant Unique Fall Bulbs?

 

To plant Unique Fall Bulbs the bulbs should be planted with the nose of the bulb upward (or the roots facing downwards) and the Luciliae Chionodoxa should be planted roughly 3" deep and 2" apart from one another.

Note: For some bulbs you may not be able to tell which way is up or down, in these cases just plant them on their side and they will adjust on their own.

When to Plant Luciliae Chionodoxa?

  Unique Fall Bulbs are normally planted Early Fall, and most Luciliae Chionodoxa will begin to flower sometime in Mid Spring.
