Features of Species or Group:

  Unknown

Features of Genus:

This ancient genus is native to the North American East Coast. The Liatris is a hardy corm that is easily combined with perennials and other bulbs. They can grow to almost 3 feet (1 meter) in height. The Liatris is becoming a very popular cut flower. The distinct look and feel of this genus make it a jewel indoors and outdoors. Also great in pots. Commonly known as the Gay Feather, they are widly available in flower shops, favoured for their longlasting color and style.

How to Plant Specialty Bulbs?

To plant Specialty Bulbs the bulbs should be planted with the nose of the bulb upward (or the roots facing downwards) and the Liatris spicita (Gayfeather) should be planted roughly 3" deep and 8" apart from one another.

Note: For some bulbs you may not be able to tell which way is up or down, in these cases just plant them on their side and they will adjust on their own.

When to Plant Liatris spicita (Gayfeather)?

Specialty Bulbs are normally planted Mid Spring, and most Liatris spicita (Gayfeather) will begin to flower sometime in Mid Summer.
