Special Features

These bulbs need full sun all day for best results. They also look great in pots.

Features of Species or Group:

The S. tricolor, also known as the Harlequin flower, is the most outstanding of the genus. The brightly colored star-shaped flowers, which are produced in early summer, are spectacular. The bright colors are shown to best advantage when they are planted in an open, sunny spot.

Features of Genus:

This is a superb plant for the garden where temperatures are mild in the winter. Excellent in containers. The name means 'to tear'; this relates to the lacerated spathes that surround the flowers. This cheerful flower so far has not received the popularity it deserves.

How to Plant Specialty Bulbs?

To plant Specialty Bulbs the bulbs should be planted with the nose of the bulb upward (or the roots facing downwards) and the Mixed Sparaxis should be planted roughly 2-3" deep and 3-4" apart from one another.

Note: For some bulbs you may not be able to tell which way is up or down, in these cases just plant them on their side and they will adjust on their own.

When to Plant Mixed Sparaxis?

Specialty Bulbs are normally planted SPRING, and most Mixed Sparaxis will begin to flower sometime in Early Summer.
