Artist Tulip In Stock

Viridiflora are unusual tulips which especially florists are fond of because the petals of the different varieties show varying amounts of green. Tulip viridilora 'Artist' has a pinkish and salmon rose exterior, with salmon rose and green on the inside. A must for a special flower arrangement.

Features of Species or Group:

This is a new group of flowers which come in various colours but which all have one characteristic in common: they all contain some green. This shows the parentage of Tulip viridiflora.

Features of Genus:

There are over 100 species of tulips and many hundreds of hybrids. Most modern garden tulips are the result of extensive breeding programmes that began in the late sixteenth century in Europe and are continuing to this day. Tulips were all the rage at that time as more and more species were introduced to Europe from Turkey, Iran and central Asia. Tulip species range in height from 15-60cm (6-24in) but the greatest number of hybrids are probably in the range of 30-40cm (12- 16in). Tulips look their best in mass plantings of one colour but they can, of course, be mixed. They make very good container plants and are delightful cut flowers. Some of the most charming are the dwarf types which do particularly well in rock gardens and are also suitable for containers. Like daffodils, tulips are split into a number of divisions according to their flower form and time of flowering.

How to Plant Specialty Tulips?

To plant Specialty Tulips the bulbs should be planted with the nose of the bulb upward (or the roots facing downwards) and the Artist Tulip should be planted roughly 6" deep and 5" apart from one another.

Note: For some bulbs you may not be able to tell which way is up or down, in these cases just plant them on their side and they will adjust on their own.

When to Plant Artist Tulip?

Specialty Tulips are normally planted Late Fall, and most Artist Tulip will begin to flower sometime in Mid Spring.
