When to plant Dutch Iris Bulbs?
Plant Dutch Iris in fall when the daytime temperatures are in the 60’s or lower during the day and before the ground freezes for winter.
How to plant Dutch Iris bulbs?
Dutch Iris have a noticeably pointed end of the bulb, the pointed end should be facing the sky at planting. Plant Dutch Iris bulbs 3-4” deep with 3-4” spacing.
Where to plant Dutch Iris bulbs?
Plant these spring blooming bulbs in a full to part sun location that has well drained soil.
Tall Dutch Iris grow 18-24” tall and flower late in spring. They should be planted in the middle to back of planting areas, and make a nice vertical accent. Plant 3-5 tall Dutch Iris per planting hole for a bouquet look.
Planting Dutch Iris bulbs in Pots
Dutch Iris can be planted in pots in temperate climates that do not experience many freeze and thaw cycles. If Dutch Iris are planted in pots in above ground containers in a climate that has varying winter temperatures the pots will need to be insulated to protect the bulbs from the effects of the freezing and thawing that may occur.
This was a last-second impulse buy @ $5 and WOW was it worth it! There were lots of blooms in purple, lavender, yellow and white in my partial sun garden. Would recommend.

I got these in just purple I think, and planted and forgot about them till they just exploded through my perennial foliage this spring with the most brightly colored purple and yellow flowers! So so beautiful along with my purple alliums. I absolutely love these. I think they have spread a little, I have some white ones too that are also beautiful but the striking color of the yellow and white will just stop you in your tracks and pull you in. Easy to grow even with the deepest foliage of my daisy and coneflowers they just push their way through. Definitely get these!
