Freesia is a popular summer flower, in part due to their pleasant scent. These flowers do well in containers and make lovely cut flowers, especially for creating wedding boutonnieres, corsages and arrangements.

Fragrant flowers that are ideal for cutting. Some gardens suggest not allowing freesia to bloom or seed in its first year to have better results in the second year.

Features of Species or Group:

  Freesia is a genus of 14-16 species of flowering plants in the family Iridaceae, native to Africa. They are herbaceous plants which grow from a corm 1- 2.5 cm diameter, which sends up a tuft of narrow leaves 10-30 cm long, and a sparsely branched stem 10- 40 cm tall bearing a few leaves and a loose one-sided spike of fragrant narrowly funnel-shaped flowers.

How to Plant Freesia Bulbs?

 

To plant Freesia Bulbs the bulbs should be planted with the nose of the bulb upward (or the roots facing downwards) and the 'Oberon' Freesia should be planted roughly 3" deep and 4" apart from one another.

Note: For some bulbs you may not be able to tell which way is up or down, in these cases just plant them on their side and they will adjust on their own.

When to Plant 'Oberon' Freesia?

  Freesia Bulbs are normally planted Mid Spring, and most 'Oberon' Freesia will begin to flower sometime in Mid Spring.
