The Crown Imperial is a stately plant which likes to catch all attention and therefore should be planted in between perennials which flower later in the season. Small Fritillaria such as Mixed Checked Fritillaria should be planted 2-3” deep. After placing the bulbs in the ground at the proper planting depth cover the bulbs with soil. A light layer of mulch can be added as well.
