Mystique Black Phlox is a striking perennial known for its unusually dark foliage and buds. While the name suggests a black flower, it is actually prized for the deep purple-black color of its flower buds that last for weeks. When the flowers eventually open in mid-summer, they reveal large heads of fragrant flowers with dark lilac or lavender-pink petals that surround a prominent deeper pink eye. This compact cultivar is excellent for adding dramatic contrast to borders and containers.
